Pharmacokinetic study on the utilisation of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and folic acid in patients with coronary artery disease

In an open-label, controlled, double-blind, two-period, randomised crossover study was conducted to determine the pharmacokinetic properties of orally administered 6[R,S]-5-MTHF compared to folic acid in patients with cardiovascular disease.

According to the results of the study, the peak concentration of both isomers after administration of 6[R,S]-5-MTHF is almost seven times higher than that of folic acid, regardless of the patient’s genotype.
